DACA Timeline
June 12th 2012
DACA was created by the Obama Administration. Applicants began to file for initial DACA.
September 5th 2017
Trump Administration rescinded DACA program. No initial or renewed applications could be filed.
January 2018
Democratic states filed a lawsuit which affirmed the decision in a US district court that the Trump Administration's repeal of DACA was based on a flawed legal premise. Only renewal applications could be filed, no advanced parole.
June 2019
Trump Administration appealed and the Supreme Court decided to hear the case.
June 18th 2020
Supreme court blocked government attempts to terminate DACA. Initial and renewal applications can now be filed.
Current
President Trump's administration will continue to reject new applications for an immigration program that allows young, undocumented immigrants to live and work in the country but will let current "Dreamers" renew those protections.
